Look for the garment's stated use and construction; a fashionable fluffy fleece can still be comfortable outdoors, but it may overheat and hold more wind.

Close the zip, turn the fleece inside out and wash it away from abrasive items such as denim, hook-and-loop fasteners and rough towels. Avoid high heat, which can damage synthetic fibres, and clear lint from the zip teeth before forcing the slider. Pilling is caused mainly by friction, so backpack straps and seat belts can affect high-wear areas even with careful washing.
