What is the difference between a Berghaus Prism fleece and a thicker pile fleece?

Prism styles are typically lightweight or midweight technical fleeces designed to sit beneath a shell, offering warmth with relatively low bulk. A high-pile or sherpa-style fleece traps more air and feels warmer when stationary, but can be bulky under a waterproof and may let wind pass through. Choose Prism for active layering and pile fleece for casual cold-weather comfort.

What does Berghaus Interactive mean on a fleece?

Interactive fleeces use a compatible zip and attachment points so they can be secured inside selected Berghaus outer shells. This creates a more stable combined layer and makes both garments easier to remove together. Compatibility is model-specific: a standard full-zip fleece may fit underneath but will not necessarily connect to the shell.

Is Polartec fleece warmer than ordinary polyester fleece?

Polartec is a branded family of fleece fabrics with different weights and constructions, so the name alone does not define warmth. A lightweight Polartec fabric can be cooler than a heavy generic pile. Compare fabric weight, loft, wind resistance and intended activity; for walking, breathability and drying speed may matter more than maximum thickness.

Can a Berghaus fleece replace a jacket?

In dry, calm weather a fleece can work as an outer layer, especially for low-intensity use. Most fleece is not waterproof and allows wind through, so exposed hills and wet conditions require a suitable shell. A wind-resistant hybrid fleece offers more protection but should still be checked for an explicit waterproof claim before relying on it in rain.

How should a Berghaus fleece fit beneath a waterproof shell?

It should follow the body closely enough to avoid bunching while leaving full shoulder and elbow movement. The hem and cuffs should not protrude so far that they wick rain inside. Try the fleece and shell together: two individually correct sizes can still feel tight if the outer jacket has an athletic cut.
