kids rainsuits

When the rain starts, puddlesuits come out! Regatta and Trespass bring a fantastic selection of waterproof rain suits that keep kids warm, dry, and comfortable through every splash, with fun bright colours and even Peppa Pig prints for the little ones.

Is an all-in-one puddle suit better than a separate jacket and overtrousers?

An all-in-one gives fewer gaps at the waist and is usually best for nursery, muddy play and younger children who sit or kneel in wet ground. A two-piece set is easier for toilets, temperature changes and older children who only need the jacket at times. Choose based on independence and activity, not simply the child’s age.

What waterproof details should I check on a kids' rainsuit?

Look for an explicit waterproof fabric, taped seams, a secure front storm flap, elasticated cuffs and coverage around the ankles. Regatta products in this category may use Isolite or Hydrafort fabrics, but the finished garment matters: taped seams prevent water entering through stitching, while a grown-on hood and close cuffs reduce rain running inside.

How much growing room should a puddle suit have?

Allow room for normal clothing or a light fleece, but avoid excessive sleeve and leg length that can cover hands, catch under boots or create trip hazards. The child should be able to squat, climb and reach overhead without the suit pulling. Adjustable foot stirrups and elastic cuffs can help manage modest growth, but should not be used to compensate for a suit several sizes too large.

Will a waterproof rainsuit make a child sweaty?

It can during energetic play, especially if worn over thick layers. Lightweight waterproof fabric protects from rain but does not insulate, so use thin, breathable layers underneath and remove the suit indoors. More breathable fabrics and ventilation reduce clamminess, but no rainsuit can eliminate moisture when a child is running hard in mild weather.

Should rain-suit legs go inside or outside wellies?

For puddles and rain, the trouser or suit leg should normally sit over the top of the wellington so water runs down the outside rather than into the boot. Foot stirrups, where supplied, help hold the hem in place. Make sure the hem does not drag beneath the sole, as this quickly damages fabric and can cause slipping.
