Synthetic flip-flops, slides and explicitly water-friendly sandals are the safest choices for poolside and beach use. Casual trainers, suede shoes and lined boots can absorb water, lose shape or dry slowly. Check the upper and footbed materials for the specific style; surf branding alone does not make every Rip Curl shoe suitable for immersion.

Flip-flops are light and easy to rinse, slides are quick to wear with socks or after changing, and trainers offer better coverage for travel and longer walks. A practical trip may use water-friendly sandals at the beach and trainers away from it. Choose one pair only if it can handle the longest walking distance, not just the few metres to the water.

Support varies from flat basic flip-flops to shaped footbeds with firmer cushioning. A thicker sole does not automatically mean better arch control, and a soft footbed can compress on long walks. Check for a contoured heel, arch shape and secure strap if you plan to wear the footwear beyond short beach or pool trips.

The toes and heel should remain fully on the footbed, with a small margin rather than hanging over the edge. The toe post should sit without pulling the foot forward, and the strap should not require you to grip with your toes. If the model uses whole sizes, compare foot length rather than automatically rounding down.

Rinse suitable synthetic beach footwear with fresh water, remove trapped sand and dry it in shade. Do not leave it on a hot car dashboard, where foam and synthetic components can distort. For trainers, suede or lined footwear, brush off dry sand and use material-specific care instead of soaking the entire shoe.
