A high-pile Borg lining traps more still air than a flat microfleece, while a knitted outer can add density and weight. A lightweight quarter-zip is better for walking and layering; a Borg-lined jacket is better for low-activity warmth. Product weight and lining are more informative than the word ‘fleece’ on its own.

It can work in dry, sheltered conditions, but ordinary fleece allows wind to pass through. On an exposed coast, use it beneath a windproof or waterproof shell, or choose a fleece with a bonded or lined construction. Plush pile provides insulation only while the moving air is controlled.

Many Saltrock designs already use a relaxed coastal silhouette, so automatically sizing up can create excessive sleeve and body volume. Buy your normal size for a casual outer layer unless the product is described as fitted or you plan to wear a thick jumper underneath. Check garment measurements and customer fit notes for the specific style.

A knit-look fleece usually uses synthetic fibres to imitate the texture of knitwear while drying faster and requiring less delicate care. It does not behave exactly like wool: it may be less breathable in mild conditions and can hold static. It is a practical casual layer rather than a direct substitute for fine wool knitwear.

Wash only when needed, close zips, use a cool gentle cycle and avoid fabric softener, which can coat fibres. Air-dry away from strong heat and lightly lift the pile with a soft brush only if the care label permits. High heat and overloaded washing are more likely to flatten Borg or sherpa textures.
