A smooth fleece-lined band creates a barrier between skin and the outer knit, making it a strong choice for sensitive foreheads. Fine synthetic or soft merino blends can also feel smoother than coarse wool. Check the lining placement: a crown lining adds warmth, while an ear-band lining targets the area most likely to itch.

Choose a deeper, stretchier crown and avoid a tight turned cuff. Place the hat slightly farther back and keep hair in a low ponytail, braid or loose at the sides rather than trapping it high under the crown. A slouch shape creates more volume than a close ski-style beanie.
