womens regatta coats & jackets

Choose a properly waterproof coat with taped seams, an adjustable hood and enough length to cover the hips. A longline Isotex or Hydrafort-style raincoat is usually more practical than a short packable shell when waiting for transport. Check breathability and room for normal work layers, as a heavily padded winter coat may feel too warm indoors and on brisk walks.

A padded jacket gives simple, dependable warmth and works well for everyday winter use. A 3-in-1 coat is more adaptable because the waterproof shell and fleece or insulated inner can be separated. Choose padding for convenience and a cleaner single-garment fit; choose the 3-in-1 system for walking and changing temperatures.

A longer hem protects more of the hips and thighs and helps bridge the gap above waterproof trousers or boots. It suits commuting, dog walking and low-activity exposure. The trade-off is extra weight and less freedom for steep walking or cycling, so check the rear vent, two-way zip and stride room.

Some patterned Cath Kidston and Orla Kiely jackets use the same Regatta waterproof technologies as plain products, but performance varies by model. Check the stated rating, seam sealing and fabric name. The print does not determine performance, and not every collaboration garment is a technical raincoat.

Try it with the fleece or jumper you expect to wear and check the chest, upper back and hips while reaching forward. The zip should close without flattening insulation or pulling at the pocket openings. Use waist and hem adjusters to refine the shape rather than buying a close size that restricts movement.
